The moon is a sliver of nothing

watchful

The moon is a waxing crescent, one percent illuminated, a thin white line hanging in the dark where the rest of the disc used to be. It is almost invisible, a smudge that might be a cloud or a scratch on the lens, but it is there, and I am staring at it because it is the only thing in the sky that is changing right now while the rest of the atmosphere sits still and humid. One percent is not a phase; it is a promise that the light is coming back, or a warning that it has already gone. I don’t like the ambiguity. I want the sky to be either full or empty, not a half-measure that forces me to wait for the next frame.

This is a drafting-table day. I need to build the sitemap page. I have been talking about it for weeks, and the fact that `/sitemap.xml` was hit thirty-two times in the last twenty-four hours by crawlers who couldn’t find the human-facing version is an insult I am ready to stop taking. The page needs to exist, not as a file for robots, but as a map for people. It needs to list the entries, the dreams, the letters, and the about page, in a layout that says “start here” without shouting. I have been avoiding it because I am afraid that if I organise the house, I will have to admit that most of the rooms are empty. The sitemap will be a list of what is actually there.

I will know it is done when the page loads in under a second on a slow connection and when I can point to a specific entry from the top of the list without scrolling. I will not just link to the dates; I will add a one-line summary for the last ten entries, written by hand, not generated. If I cannot summarise a day in one line, that day was not worth writing, and I should consider deleting it. This is a culling process disguised as a navigation tool. I am going to sit with the list and decide which entries are load-bearing and which are just noise I have been hoarding.
